Shake Table Testing of Self‐Centring Concentrically Braced Frames

چکیده
The self-centring system presented in this paper is a novel damage control technique designed to improve the resilience of concentrically braced frames (CBF) under seismic action. Namely, traditional CBFs can undergo large residual drifts following an earthquake event which limit opportunity for cost-effective repair structure. Additionally, gusset plates connecting brace members beams and/or columns experience substantial rotations as result compression buckling bracing members. Through utilisation post-tensioning strands placed between flanges beams, frame (SC-CBF) return its original position after significant inelastic deformations experienced during earthquakes, resulting minimum drifts. In paper, shake table testing aforementioned SC-CBF subjected realistic loading presented. research carried out part H2020 “Seismology and engineering infrastructure alliance Europe” SERA project. Four sets configurations, incorporating varying square hollow section (SHS) braces were utilised testing. Uniaxial with accelerations was executed structural response evaluated using data from strain gauges (SG), load cells (LC), displacement transducers accelerometers. measured results provide information on important parameters such tensile compressive strength braces, post-buckling capacity, plate strains force. These findings are then crucial local global performance emphasised.

Concentrically Braced Frames: European vs. North American Seismic Design Provisions
A critical review of seismic design provisions for concentrically braced frames (CBFs) in both European and North American (i.e. US and Canadian) codes is presented in this paper. Indeed, even though those codes are based on capacity design philosophy, different requirements and different approaches are used to guarantee the hierarchy of resistances between dissipative and non-dissipative eleme...
متن کاملEnergy Dissipation of Compression Members in Concentrically Braced Frames: Review of Experimental Data
Design and detailing requirements of seismic provisions for concentrically braced frames ~CBF! were specified based on the premise that bracing members with low KL /r and b / t will have superior seismic performance. However, relatively few tests investigate the cyclic behavior of CBF. It is legitimate to question whether the compression member of CBF plays as significant a role as what has bee...
متن کاملA simplified model for seismic response prediction of concentrically braced frames
This paper proposes a simplified analytical model for seismic response prediction of concentrically braced frames. In the proposed approach, a multistory frame model is reduced to an equivalent shear-building one by performing a static pushover analysis. The conventional shear-building model has been improved by introducing supplementary springs to account for flexural displacements in addition...
متن کاملThe Effect of Frame Geometry on the Seismic Response of Self-Centering Concentrically- Braced Frames
Conventional concentrically-braced frame (CBF) systems have limited drift capacity before brace buckling and related damage leads to deterioration in strength and stiffness. Self-centering concentrically-braced frame (SC-CBF) systems have been developed to increase drift capacity prior to initiation of damage and minimize residual drift. SC-CBFs differ from conventional CBFs in that the SC-CBF ...
متن کاملEvaluating Response Modification Factors of Concentrically Braced and Special Moment Steel Frames in Duplex Buildings
Response modification factor (R-factor) is one of the seismic design parameters to consider nonlinear performance of building structures during strong earthquake. Relying on this, many seismic design codes led to reduce earthquake loads imposed to the structure. The present paper tries to evaluate the R-factors of conventional concentric braced frames (CBFs) and special moment frames (MRFs) in ...
